The potlatch and the Northwest Coast have been subjects of interest in anthropology since the beginning of the discipline. The data from this area have been the arena of theoretical discussions since the time of Boas. In this book, the authors demonstrate the value of a structural approach in answering some of the perennial questions posed by the rich body of data on the Northwest Coast collected by generations of anthropologists.
